The borough of Ferreries is located in the centre of Menorca. It is aligned from north to south, with an area of 67.39 square kilometres, an average altitude of According to oral tradition, the town, founded at the end of the 13th century, owes its names to the blacksmiths who settled here to serve the itinerant traders and their horses who travelled around the island. Its cultural wealth is to be found, among other places, in the Castle of Santa Àgueda (dating from Moorish times and declared a Heritage of General Interest by the Town Council of Ferreries), Naveta de Cova des Moro (the neolithic settlement of Son Mercer de Baix), the Church of Saint Bartholomew (18th century), the itineraries of the Camí Reial (one of the oldest communication routes on the island, dating back to the Middle Ages: es Coll Llis, es Pouets, sa Cova Reial and Costa de na Salema), and the ravines of Trebalúger and d’Algendar.
