Gastronomic Activities

Hotel rural Menorca

Menorcan cuisine is based on fresh, natural ingredients obtained from the land and sea.

For example, the delicious meat produced by the island’s livestock raisers; fresh fish, shellfish and lobster, which are the chief ingredients of the local dish known as ‘caldereta’; craft-made appellated cheese prepared on Menorcan estates such as Hort Sant Patrici; and traditional pork sausages such as the Menorcan ‘sobrasada’, ‘cuixot’ or ‘carn i xulla’.

Jams, honey and pastry products are also part of the island’s gastronomic tradition. On the drink side, gin – a leftover from the period of English rule – continues to be distilled following ancestral techniques and is the chief drink in the local festivities, when it is drunk as a ‘pomade’ with natural lemon juice. Fruit liqueurs and digestive herbs are also prepared using traditional methods.

Mayonnaise, introduced by the French at the Court of Louis XV after the conquest of Menorca, is the island’s most international recipe.

Ca Na Xini offers a complete picnic that we will prepare for you each morning so that you can take it with you on your outings to any of Menorca’s unspoilt beaches, so that you can enjoy a full day without having to leave to eat. At night, if you do not wish to leave the property, we can offer a simple menu based on fresh products on our outdoor terrace in the main garden.

As we wish our guests to enjoy a pleasant stay not just in our hotel but in Menorca as a whole, we will recommend establishments that stand out for their cuisine and hospitality.
